About
Hi, I’m João.
Welcome to In-depth Plumbing - a digital corner dedicated to looking under the floorboards of software to see why the bits are leaking.
I’m a software engineer who tends to take the “first-principles” approach a bit too literally. If there’s a problem being solved about 98% of the way I want… you’ll probably find me spending 3 weeks writing a custom, slightly unhinged alternative from scratch to see if I can hit the 100%. Not the most efficient way to live, but hey: the snacks in the rabbit hole taste great.
What goes on here?
This blog is a notepad for my adventures (and misadventures) in low-level systems programming, compiler design, and hardware emulation. If it involves manually managing memory, counting CPU cycles, or squinting at hex dumps at 4:00 AM, you’ll probably read about it here.
The Philosophy
- Keep it simple: Strip away the bloat and heavy framework dependencies whenever possible.
- Understand the stack: If you don’t know what the metal is doing underneath, you’re just guessing.
- Don’t take yourself too seriously: At the end of the day, we’re all just modern wizards casting weird spells into glowing rectangles hoping something compiles.
Thanks for stopping by! If you want to say hi, argue about tech, or point out a typo, you can find me on GitHub or track down the nearest espresso machine.
